About this video

Stretching and loosening your horse at the start of exercise is usually done under saddle. But regular stretching on the ground after exercise when the horse is warm, can extend his range of movement, reduce stiffness, remove lactic acid and generally improve circulation. Equine masseur Beth Butler shows Fiona Price a number of stretches which can help dressage horses to become more expressive and jumpers to develop a' fifth' leg. Exercises include the 'girth stretch', a neck and shoulder stretch, 'half pass', hamstring and 'farrier' stretches. Beth provides clear explanations and Fiona's horse Norris proves to be a willing model!

mcflynn 6 Sep 2011 Thanks for the video. I have been doing the stretches you demonstrated for about three weeks with my horse. Today for the first time his low back lifted and the base of neck released. I feel your exercises were the tipping point. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
Kristerhbh 25 Dec 2010 That' what I have been doing but just gradually and the horse is getting quite supple. I love ALL your videos, they are such great insight.... please do more!
hhhorse 8 Aug 2010 Very useful! Grateful thanks!
bethbutler 3 Jul 2010 Hi Kristerhbh! Yes these stretches would be fine to do with your youngstock. I would always do them when they come in from the field and maybe only do a couple at a time to start with as the balancing involved could be hard for your babies!
Kristerhbh 1 Jul 2010 Could I do these stretches on my young un-broken horses on warm days, i.e 2 yr-olds?
