About this video

Coming from the 'Talland' equestrian dynasty, it seemed logical Charlie would go into the 'family business'. But it almost didn't happen. He disliked horses and his mum, Pammy Hutton, had to pay him to ride! However, something changed and after proving himself on GB junior and young rider teams, Charlie moved up to Grand Prix. Fiona Price talks to Charlie before his debut Kur at the Nationals, finds out about rivalry with his mum and sister and meets the giant Aljano III. She also discovers Charlie's last thoughts before his test! We watch the warm up and the Kur, then catch up with Charlie and Pammy for a 'post mortem' afterwards!

elaine elliott 29 Apr 2010 Well done Charlie xx
OGEE 7 Jan 2010 Thanks for showing the warm up. We don't see the hard work behind the scenes that often, even though tests are probably 90% preperation and 10% competition.
L & W 23 Oct 2009 Thanks Fiona. A poor choice of words as you rightly say.
Fiona Price 21 Oct 2009 I think he really meant he wasn't in to the whole horsey family thing. You have to appreciate he was born into a situation where everyone's lives revolved around horses and there was unspoken pressure to participate as he indicated. He was more than likely being a rebellious teenager. From meeting him and seeing him with his horses, he does have a geniune, meanginful relationship with them. I think it was just a poor choice of words!
L & W 21 Oct 2009 I was sad to hear him say he "hated" horses at one time. Even if he didn't want to ride when he was younger and was pressured into riding, needing to be paid to ride, to say he hated horses at that time is shocking. I can't quite see how anyone could hate horses, then a few years later be able to form a genuine, meaningful partnership with a horse and then to compete, at any level.
