Hello - I have recently read that the FEI is making some new rules regarding hypersensitivity and hypersensitization in horses. Why would anyone use artificial means to make their horses skin hypersensitive? Is it for showjumping so if the horse touches the jump it hurts 'more' and so they jump higher? Sorry to be so naive, but I really am not sure!! Thank you.

Yes Smilesalot, as far as I am aware that is exactly why some show jumpers will apply certain substances to their horse's legs. I imagine that the same techniques might be used to get an exaggerated leg action in dressage too.

It is a pity that people cannot just rely on training and ability

Thanks Guru.
I agree with you - it is a shame, isn't it! I wonder if people lose sight of why they first started riding/working with horses. I think if you get to that stage and lose the joy of being with horses just for themselves, perhaps it's time to take up a different sport?
Thanks again and happy riding!
