thanks for the advice, i do think it is me sitting heavier on my left seat bone, i have done a number of dressage tests recently and it only the left canter that the judges are noticing is crooked.

Hi Clare - this may be to do with his back (saddle fit obviously comes into it), contact on the bit (wolf teeth - blind, broken or whole can be a common problem) and the sight and sensationg of the rider moving if you are doing rising trot.
