Why are team members (UK and other countries) running their horses at Barbury 3*, a major event, so close to the Olympics? I know it's a one day but a serious one at that and, given most teams are already selected, it seems an unecessary risk. Also, in terms of recovery, I would have thought that team horses will shortly be going into quarantine, then travelling to Hong Kong, so they will get little time (mentally or physically)to recover? Clearly, at that level, people know what they are doing. But to a lowly amateur, it just seems a little odd.....

Maybe it’s their last big run before they have to knuckle down and concentrate on the Olympics?

I'm sure the riders running at Barbury wanted to keep their horses tuned before the big event. Remember William Fox-Pitt not running tamarillo at any big comps before the worlds and then him having a silly run out?!
