Very interesting comment by Stephen Clarke in the latest video about paying dressage judges. I was amazed on my travels in the US to meet people who judged for a living, in fact one lady was giving up working as a school teacher because she was earning more from judging!I can see the reasononing behind it to help encourage more people into judging but are our entry fees going to steeply rise as a result?

I have to say I am horrified that they are not paid. I know they get travel expenses, but I think they should definitely get paid, possibly on a rising scale for the listing.

I'm going to play devils advocate here and suggest that if they were to be paid then they should also be more standardised in their capabilities. I've seen some rubbish come from judges who were list two and up, who don't appear to know what correct work is.

Hi

I also think that judges should be paid, their fuel allowance doesn't really cover it these days. We need judges to be very well dressage educated and that also costs money so they need to get some financial assistance to be able to do it. Without judges we have no sport.
