The site and it's contents are great but could we have a video on how to achieve a good sit trot, you get so many conflicting comments, and the most silly is just keep doing it, wouldn't it be great instead of seeing the good riders just showing how to get the horse going better if we could get a video on just how they achieve a nice sit trot, after all it's probably the most asked question on riding and unless you can do a good sit trot you can't advance up the ranks

It's a fair comment and I will ask someone to explain it when we are next doing dressage filming.

Hi Fiona,
Could you please also ask about the sittng canter? I am probably bizzare, but I manage sitting trot on pretty much all horses I have been on and I can not always manage the sitting canter. Everyone who has done a bit of riding manages sitting canter and for some reason I can do it only on horses which are really comfortable. My mare is really "rocky" and her canter and trot are really bouncy - I can sit the trot, but canter is possible to sit only when she is really collected or canter is really slow. Any videos on how one does it would be wonderful!

What about filming a training session with BD trainer and equipilates teacher Lindsay Wilcox-Reid? I'm sure she could help us all to eliminate the bounce....

This is also covered in my blog of 26th March on my recent lesson on Active Walero!

I think we're all looking forward to your lessons on Walero and following your progress. You're blog was really helpful in reminding just how much core stability is needed to ride well. Great descriptions! Between you describing what you're doing and feeling and Nicola teaching we'll learn a lot. And if we can put it all into pratice we'll have happy horses too....

Hopefully, the first video will be up this week. An hour lesson has been divided into two videos of around 15 mins each. The first is just walk, but instructive! Half an hour is too long to put on the site as most people don't have half an hour in one go to watch, also, if your connection isn't that big, it could be difficult downloading to view.

So we have to wait and be drip fed 15 minute bursts!!
Looking forward to them - the first will be good as my youngster is learning to be straight and forward in the walk, or should I say that I'm learning to sit straight.....

Tinkerbell, you are certainly not alone when it comes to not being able to sit to canter!! I can't either, and like you I'm pretty competent at the sitting trot. I either come out of the saddle or do the dreaded rocking my upper body move!

Hi BT,
Thank you so much for your post!!!! I was starting to think that I am all alone in the whole world who can not manage it! One day we will sit to it, I am sure! Wtih lots of support, TinkerBell!

Lol, and people say canter is the easiest gait to sit to!! I have a fab instructor now (Sarah Sjholm), but I'd love to have mirrors in the arena so I can see when I'm getting it right.

Random question though, I used to know a Tinkerbell from a snowboard forum. Is that you, or just a coincidence?

Hi BT,

It is a coincidence ;), as I am not at all snowboard person. Little magic though helps everywhere ;)

After years of dreading the sitting trot and bouncing so high that I had more air time than time in the saddle I have finally cracked it. The Sylvia Loch DVD really helped but it was actually Maximus (I don't know if I have posted about him before)Who insists that I sit right.

For four years he ran away with me, napped and had no steering and by accident one day I found out I had been bracing against him which was also causing my sitting trot to be dreadful. He only goes well now if I sit properly and don't brace.

I am so excited - it has taken me years to get it right with the sitting trot and Maximus. Now if only I can get it right with the canter....

It would be great if you could take a lesson from Laura B and have her explain the seat at all gaits and also how to collect your horse with your seat. If a lesson is not possible have Laura ride and explain. She is a super teacher.

A good idea. I will add to the list. Thanks.

With regards to the dreaded sitting trot. For elementry dressage, do you have to do trot work in sitting trot?
