About this video
Phoebe Buckley explains how she deals with Gordon's 'cold back' issue each time she rides. A very talented eventer, Gordon is not one to be rushed!

emmafoyle 13 Mar 2011 I'm sure you tried everything thing with him, and found that's just 'him' but have you done much muscular work with him like myo faashia release? Sorry if you have been down this route.
mariamarquise 14 Dec 2010 I didn't think Phoebe's approach was following many of the so-called Natural Horsemanship principles. I think it's MUCH better : -)
Phoebe 14 Dec 2010 Thank you all - Gordon is a very special little horse and one worth taking the time over!
Kathyndogs 13 Dec 2010 Since I have come back to riding after 30+ years, I have been studying the videos about "Natural Horsemanship". It is a real education in how a horse thinks. Your approach to riding Gordon follows their guidelines. Set the horse up for success, must look and not turn away, give the horse time to process what is being asked and really think about what is next, and treat each horse as an individual. You probably know all of this, but it is nice to see horses across the "Pond" basing training on how the horse understands, not expecting the horse to understand us. Thanks for the video!
mariamarquise 13 Dec 2010 Fantastic clip, HorseHero. It's great to see certain techniques which some of us, amateurs, use but we often get funny looks. I do exactly the same with not tying up the horse but putting the rope through something just once, so that if he decides to pull away, he can. If I do this, he usually stands fine but he knows when there is a knot, and makes a point to tell me he can pull away. It's very re-assuring to see the same technique used here. Same about not smacking him when he doesn't want to go forward - might work with some but doesn't work with others. In general, a wonderful approach, Phoebe - matter-of-fact, yet humane and understanding. 10 out of 10.
