About this video

Young Rider gold medallist Georgie Spence, works the eight year old Jovial Valentino through a busy jumping grid. Tino, who is aimed at Advanced in the next eventing season tends to be a bit forward going, so the exercise of six fences consisting of a bounce, to a one stride, to a bounce and a one stride, is designed to back him off his fences, keep him thinking and make him more agile. Starting with poles on the ground, Georgie gradually builds up the exercise so that each time Tino jumps it, a new fence has been added. Though the jumps are not big they have the desired effect of steadying him, and also making a good corner afterwards.

keentolearn 11 Jun 2010 I was very impressed with Georgie's position and also the way she 'goes' with the horse down the grid without restricting him even when he is over keen. Having seen this, video I realise that I need to allow my TB to slow himself down in a grid rather than me doing it for him. She is of course much younger than me(!) but I shall give it a go and I shall put my self preservation instincts aside for this exercise and concentrate on keeping my position. Thanks Georgie.
Diana 6 Apr 2010 I like the way that Georgie doesn't automatically wear spurs with every horse she rides.
Diana 6 Apr 2010 These jumping videos have made me much braver to do more out hacking. I aim to start show jumping the moment the fields are rolled as we keep a jumping field spare..I have not done more than pole work for years!
rac 5 Apr 2010 This video is a great help. Thanks.
neigh 5 Apr 2010 Such a helpful video! I wish my outdoor was big enough to set this up...
