About this video
Kelly Marks is one of the pre-eminent horse behaviourists in the UK and works closely with Monty Roberts. In this simple exercise, she shows us how to teach your horse to stand still, a technique she calls 'ground tying' and very handy it is indeed! Her horse Pie (the star of her books) is the guinea pig in this video. In the end, repetition wins out over the tempting apple tree!

Sophie.M 19 Jun 2009 I noticed you just let your lead rope dangle but my horse is very likely to try and move and I am worried in case he steps on it and gives himself a fright and he is very spooky and mainly all he thinks about is his tummy so ti might be hard as we dont really have anywhere that isnt on grass or have juicy verges to start practicing so I might have my work cut out!
sunrising-frog 16 May 2009 Thanks very much for the tip! Repetition and patience... I don't have a horse, but I'm trying to teach the same thing to my dog, at the moment!
