Hello....I'm team manager for my local riding club showjumping team. The open team won the BRC Champs last year at Lincoln, and, as a result have been asked to represent England at the Riding Clubs Festival at Stradbally Hall in County Loais, Ireland. Does anyone know of any good deals to transport 6 horses over the water, bearing in mind that we are based in Manchester?

Riding Club are willing to pay the initial cost, provided we raise the cash to repay the expenses. So I wondered:

- has anybody got any fab fundraising ideas?
- is there any scope for grants, any sources welcome?
- do you think that the club should contribute part of the cost? (bearing in mind that we are THE most successful riding club in the NW).

Thanks for ur help!

for fundraising, round Christmas time carol singing on horseback gets a few hundred a pop, but that may not help you. Cake sales work well and if you have a very quiet small pony and the right insurance you can give pony rides to children at a local event. You can usually get away with charging 5 pound a go if its more than a walk up and down.

Bag packing at the local (large) supermarket on a Saturday is great for generating some cash.

Also you could contact local companies for donations/sponsorship, but be prepared to do some presentations and then there is the local sports councils and lottery fund that may be a way to go. But start getting in these applications now ....and ....good luck for the team.

I know a Pony Club that bakes home-made horse treats and sells them at every horse show that they go to!

You could do a charity quiz night in your local pub? Or have a dinner - if you have the experience to organise it. It very much depends on the amount of money you are looking to raise - it may be worth trying to get local companies to sponsor you. And it also depends how much time you have to raise the money as well... Alot of raising money, is not what you know but who you know - so have a think about who you know that has experience in this sort of fund raising or works for a company that would sponsor you. The ways you can do it are endless.
