When I was 11 I received my dressage pony. She was 6 at the time and just backed. Over the first two years she didn't do much more than running as fast as she could, but with time I got her more and more under control. We moved her to a pony club where the outdoor school was in a valley and the stables were on a hill. Both were connected with large stairs made out of sand and wood. When I was riding, all went well up until the point she would say "now it's enough, I'm off to bed". So from the other end of the school she took off in the fastest galop she could get into and she would run up the stairs with me still on top, covering my head with my arms to protect myself against the branches that were hanging over the stairs. Once back on the hill, I had to get off to take her back down to the school because she refused to go down the stairs with me sitting on her. This is fine if it happens once, but on her worst days I had to repeat this routine about 10 times I don't have to tell you how tired I was after an hour of riding :-). So in the end my parents would stand in front of the stairs which should stop every normal pony, but mine decided that if she couldn't climb the stairs, she would just climb up the hill :-) Luckily she realised quickly her superpowers did have limits. She is now 26 and obviously much calmer. I will always think of our stairs adventures and always when I see big stairs my first thought is " I bet my pony wouldn't mind climbing those".
