About this video

15 year old junior show jumping star Jessica Mendoza, works the exuberant Starsky (Usar Hune) at home. Starsky is a prolific international winner but Jess says he is a little spooky, though that also means he is careful! In the warm-up, she describes how she "gets the spook out of him" including riding corners without letting him fall in and using just one filler under the practise fence. Jessica works on improving Starsky's jump using more power and pace, until he is ready to jump a course on grass. Jessica narrates the feeling she gets from the talented Starsky and the round itself, and still manages to jump a polished clear!

horseluvatali 11 May 2012 I looooooove watching her ride... its so amazing!!! I think some of the comments people have put her are TOTALLY ridiculous! I mean, come on, she's a complete professional and all her horses obviously get the best of the best care. These vids have been put here to help us and see how the pros train and ride their horses, not to be critisized!
Richard Maxwell 8 Feb 2012 Great videos, I'm going to get William to watch them. Jessica and her family were parked next to us at Scope last year and were a really lovely family. Good luck for this up and coming year Team Mendoza!
becksk2 24 Jul 2011 I have a horse very like this one...he is really keen but spooky and also has a tendancy to throw his head up and fight me after the fence. He did have physical and emotional issues when I had him which we got sorted and he still has regular Bowen therapy sessions to keep him in check plus he's barefoot. He still throws himself about like this inbetween fences however...I think it is just his way! Some horses are just quirky and I applaud Jessica for sitting so quietly and not making too big an issue out of it...in my experience it just makes them worse if you try and stop them too much!! I know that feeling well!!!
YankeeSweet 21 Jun 2011 This horse reminds me of a horse I had a few years back. He would jump anything..no fear...but he wanted to do it his way. He would fight for his head like this. If it were up to him we would be running full out taking each fence at breakneck speed. It is a challenge to ride a horse like this and I give Jessica credit. Nothing the horse does seems to faze her. I expect to see more of this young lady in the future! Great riding...
euterpe 21 Jun 2011 Great riding Jessica! Very quiet. And a wonderful horse.
