About this video
As the competition season is about to start, Horse Hero's Fiona Price provides a timely demonstration of how to trim a horse's heels using the time-honoured method of a comb and scissors! The desired effect is a 'contouring' of the fetlock joint rather than a close-crop, as this horse has unclipped legs. It takes no time at all to create a professional looking finish which is easy to maintain. (Another video showing how to do the job using clippers, is in the 'Competition, Turnout & Travel' section of the Video Library.)

phbonita 15 Oct 2011 To avoid the 'steps' look on a fidgety horse - try angling the comb as you trim rather than keeping it straight across - it does help
Fiona Price 7 Dec 2009 Good idea!
Sophie.M 7 Dec 2009 Good video but just thought I should say that I have always been told to do it with round ended scissors in case your horse moves or fidgets.
mandaleacalico 14 Feb 2009 Just tried it on my boy. He has 'steps' because he kept fidgeting, which is a shame. But they'll grow out before the season starts. But I've been looking for a way to trim his heels without clippers, as he has some feathering and this is perfect!
Eventer-15 11 Feb 2009 Very handy. I'll be using this method to make my horse look very smart this season!!
