charlieboy 27 May 2011 By having a selection of horses in a line it made it easier to see the differences. To me the first three horses that we viewed, they looked like hunters but the others looked quite light in the bone and not as tough but by the sounds of things, it takes more than just the looks to make a good hunter.
ks 19 Nov 2010 I had been lead to believe that the generally accepted opinion due to scientific studies indicate that was the prolonged rest afterwards that gave results rather than the firing itself.
wvfsportpony 15 Mar 2010 What are those white marks on some of the horses backs? Where the saddle would go?
Carmel4ie 25 Feb 2010 Thoroughly enjoyable and some useful tips from an old pro!
David Marlin 14 May 2009 Firing is not currently illegal in the UK and some owners still request it. Some veterinary surgeons refuse to do it as they do not believe it is beneficial. Professor Silver carried out research at Bristol University over a period of many years and concluded that any benefit of firing was small. It was banned briefly in the UK by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in the early 1990s. However vets who believed in it strongly mounted a campaign and the RCVS finally agreed that firing could be used when other methods had failed.
