  • Skiving off school!

Well it’s only been one month of 2012 but it’s already been pretty busy, in a good way though. I guess while Mark is here and I am not in full competition season yet, we are making the most of packing in as many things as we can. I have been hunting once a week with Minstrel my new buddy, who is ace. I went on a fun weekend to Yorkshire with a load of friends and last weekend I went skiing with some friends too. I know, it’s a tough life but someone has to do it!

I feel very guilty, as if I am skiving off school but actually, I have only missed one day of training my horses both those weeks, as they have Sundays off anyway, so really, I think fun weekends away should be done more often where possible, especially when my dressage team mates are off lapping up the sun in Palm Beach!

The horses are all really well, especially Alf who is not massively happy about how little work he is supposed to be doing and is trying his hand at indoor racing at least once a day! I had a photo shoot with British Vogue which was pretty scary but an awesome experience. I won't say much more about it now because the edition, in which lots of British Olympic hopefuls will feature, is not out until the summer!

It was my birthday on Tuesday and I am afraid to have to admit that I can no longer call myself "mid 20's!" It has to be "late 20's" as I am now 27. I had a crazy day of riding and also had to do a last minute drive to go and film my choreography at Spencer and Jay's yard in their indoor school, as my indoor is not full size and the outdoor was frozen solid! I had to make a video to send to the person who does my Freestyle to adapt an old one of Alf's for Willow, because I had no chance of getting around the arena in time on Will.

Alf‘s freestyle covers so much more ground that poor Will was having to pick up indoor racing too! It’s fine though, it’s only for the World Cup Qualifier in Germany the week after next - plenty of time...! Oh dear, well I have to do a good GP before worrying too much about how the Freestyle goes anyway! Fingers crossed for that one.

Then after having finished lots of manic riding, I had a great fun evening at home with friends and fell into bed exhausted and that little bit older. One of my three charming brothers even suggested I have some eggs frozen….how nice!

Thank you for letting us into your experiences and allowing us to share your life. It gives continued hope to us all mere mortals that we are all in this great journey together, as one! Really can't wait to see you strut your stuff in London with Alf!

I too turn 27 this year, and I too am contemplating the concept of being "late 20's" and "nearly 30" and wondering how I feel about that.

I think you should give up hunting and skiing until after the Olympics!! You don't want to be riding in plaster Lol!!
